| Special Needs Judo |

Osaka Judo Club has a number of players who fight within the scope of Special Needs Judo. The current players have intellectual and hearing impairment disabilities, but the club welcomes all players from any category.
Head Coach, Adrian Dove, has recently been appointed as the Lead Commissioner for 'Deaf Judo' for the British Judo Association. The purpose of this role is to lead the development of judo for deaf players.

| What is Special Needs Judo? |

Special Needs Judo encompasses players with the following disabilities:
Intellectual disability
Physical disability
Sensory disability - includes sight and hearing impairment

| Why do Special Needs Judo at Osaka? |
|---|
The club has a designated coach for Special Needs players who has a lot of judo experience as well as working with people with disabilities.
The 3 main competitions each year for the Special Needs players are:
East of Scotland SN Championships
British Closed SN Championships
Wales SN Championships
Players are selected by the Head coach to take part in these competitions

| Who qualifies for Special Needs Judo? |

For players to enter Special Needs competitions the following eligibility criteria apply:

| Disability | Criteria |
| Intellectual | Intelligence quotient (IQ) is below 70-75.
Significant limitations exist in two or more adaptive skill.
This condition is present from childhood (defined as age 18 or less).

| Physical | Physical disability - characterised by a decrease of muscle power
and/or the absence of limbs.
Motor disability - characterised by the increase of muscle tension and a decrease of muscle power, uncontrolled motor activity and a rigidity of body parts. These are mostly caused by illnesses or lack of oxygen at birth
|
Sensory - Sight Impaired | Visual impairment - a visual acuteness equal to or less than 3/10 or a range of vision less than 30 degrees.
Deafblindness - the condition of little or no useful sight and little or no useful hearing.

Sensory - Hearing Impaired | A hearing loss of at least 55 decibels in the better ear (3-tone frequency average at 500, 1000, 2000 Hertz, ISO 1964 Standard). |
